Let Sarah read it out for you.
Make mistakes & learn from them, it is very human
Well, this quote is true but unfortunately not always. There are certain mistakes in life that you won’t get another chance for. Know them and don’t even think to make such mistakes in your life.
1. Not Paying Attention to Your Academics
We all have grown in a society where we take proud in saying that “Bhai kuch bhi padhe bina paper dene aaya hu” (I haven’t studied anything for this exam). And we would boast about how we have studied even lesser. Many of us don’t really enjoy academics. May be because it’s boring, out dated & impractical. But your 10th, 12th & Graduation scores or institutions do matter.
Especially if you are planning to get a good job as a fresher or pursue PG from an elite institution. Your fundamental understanding of concepts taught will help you more as you move forward towards your area of interest in life.
Also, there are some subjects, basic understanding of which are extremely useful to every individual no matter field or background, such as Mathematics.
2. Not Pursuing Your Dreams
To an artist, it’s his art that gives him a purpose to live.
Everyone is good at something, everyone dreams of doing something big in life. But just to day dream it & not put any efforts at all to realize it is an unforgivable and irreversible mistake. Mediocrity hurts at a later stage.
So never compromise on making efforts to achieve your dreams.
3. Disrespecting Your Parents
The generation gap that today’s youth is facing with their parents is probably highest in the human history, the reason for this is mainly the way world has evolved in the 90s and thereafter.
But as we move forward in life we realize whatever out parents said or did was always for our betterment & we do regret our ill behavior towards our parents. That is why it’s better never to lose your temperament while talking with them & giving them the respect they deserve.
May be just knowing that they are the very reason we exist & we can pursue our goals in life as we want; is enough of a reason to treat them appropriately.
4. Compromising Your Health
In our 20s we don’t really focus on what we eat or do we exercise or not. Our focus is either career or relationship or fun. What we miss-out is our health which we don’t realize until few years later when things start to change.
No matter how busy schedule do we have, regular health care & healthy food is a must. Healthy food & exercises will not only shape your body but also your thoughts; it will help you to have positive vibes within yourself. It will increase your productivity and sportsmanship. Good healthy habits and healthy food in your youth will help you to build a physique that will be well functioning in the later years of life.
So never make the mistake of compromising your health.
5. Being Dependent on Someone Else for Your Emotional Happiness
In today’s world we tend to make the mistake of depending up on people around us to make us feel happy & important. Let it be friends or relationship partners.
According to a research in human psychology, it’s very important for a human being to learn to live independently and love his own self. This will help in emotional stability in longer run. Dependency over our partners or friends result in unexpected emotional traumas, which can lead to depression.
Further self-companionship helps in making the practical & logical decisions in tough times, which are very much required in today’s world.
6. Considering Addictions as ‘Cool Things to Do’
We live in a world where access to cigarettes, alcohol any another drug is very easy. Also, at times it is projected as a cool or impressive thing to do. It results in many youngsters trying it and then overdoing it which results into an addiction which is not only harmful to your body but to your future as well.
Also, at times we come across people who wish to quit these but then it becomes very difficult job. Thus, one shouldn’t make the mistake of encouraging addictive habits.
7. Taking Your Career Lightly
A career or Work is what we do 1/3rd of our life & thus we can’t afford to take career lightly, mainly because there is no going back over things that you have already done.
A sound professional life will help you to build a sound personal life. Also, career is the sole thing that stays with you forever.
If you plan for a startup, well-planned!! Now it’s time to execute your idea.
8. Wasting Time
This head is so broad that discussing anything isn’t sufficient. We all have already heard that time is equivalent to money, or money once spent will return but time once gone will never return. It’s very important to overcome laziness and mental obstructions to your goal and utilize every moment possible.
Because wasting your time currently may seem a normal idea to you, but you will realize later on, that this was a mistake.
9. Not Investing in Yourself
Traditionally our mentality about investing is in terms of quick or guaranteed monetary returns. But we underestimate the most return procuring way of investing; which is investing in yourself, which actually will repay great returns.
You can invest in yourself by learning new things, reading various books, doing various courses, etc. This experience will lift your market value and make you capable enough to gain fantastic rate for your time & skills.
10. Staying Negative About Yourself
“To make the impossible possible, first thing to do is believe in yourself”
I have seen many people in my life who are extremely talented yet extremely under confident, they doubt their own self to a level where they subconsciously kill their ability to perform that task. Also lack of confidence & positivity creates issues at times of public speaking, interviews & presentations.
These are occasions where they need to portray best of yourself but because of negativity & lack of faith inside them, they fail at doing so. It’s very important to stay positive & believe that you hold the ability to turn bad things into good things & turn the bad time into good time.
If you feel you are under confident or excessively negative about yourself its always good to read positive blogs, try suggested positivity exercise. Also, I would suggest reading books of Robin Sharma.
11. Getting into Debt Cycle
It’s always good to be able to spend more than you have, that is what makes credit attractive; may it be from friends, family or credit providing companies.
But this can become a habit very easily, wherein you will end up taking more than you can repay. And it’s a vicious circle; which is a never-ending one. Thus it’s always recommendable to minimize your debts.
12. Not Exploring Your Life
Life has a lot to give to any individual who is growing with age, it’s always about how open you are towards what life has to give you. There are many great things such as Books, movies, sports, travelling, technology, automobile, etc where one finds his/her peace and interest something that he enjoys forever.
To find that, its always very important to keep on exploring. For many people suffering from depression, exploration is also known as an endway to it. People confuse in life about their life goals often find peace & stability while exploring life and travelling.
