Be okay with not knowing for sure what might come next but know that whatever it is… you will be okay.

Today, life is full of uncertainties and whether we like it or not it’s going to stay like this forever. Even after we have achieved whatever we aspired for. At our age, one of the greatest fears is to have clarity about our future. Everywhere we go people wonder what we want to become or what have we planned whilst most of us our not even sure of the next day. It’s surely important to be certain and clear about our goals and ambitions and what we want in our life but that, in no way means that we cannot enjoy the temporary void where we don’t know what the future holds for us.

Here are a few reasons why it is good to not have any clear goals:

1. Liberty to Experiment

Liberty to experiment

R.W. Emerson once said that, “All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. We should practically apply this to our life. What if we don’t have any goals? It’s all going to be okay because in such a situation we have the complete freedom to experiment and do whatever we like. In the long run, these experiments will only bring clarity to us about our interests and aptitudes. “You’ve got to experiment to figure out what works.” It is definitely time consuming but the result is truly fruitful. It is full of risks throughout and sometimes all efforts may go in vain but this only means that we have a new venture to look upon and a hope that the next endeavor brings what we have been looking for.

2. Sky Is the Limit

Sky is the limit

Uncertainty comes with its biggest advantage and that is, that it opens up a number of doors for us to get into. There is no limit to what we can do because there are no boundaries for us to look for. Our life becomes an open field where we can run in whichever direction we want without fearing the consequences. This is where our creativity comes into play and we get to explore areas which we were unaware of. This also helps in our overall development because we try out a lot of different things which helps us in our grooming. Looking up at the sky, all we see is an endless expanse of blue with an element of wonder and surprises. Similar is a life without a set goal.

3. Some ‘Me’ Time

Time for yourself

Diverting our attention from the inevitable statement ‘life is a race’ gives us time for ourselves. Delve into things that make us happy and make us understand the mere importance of our life by appreciating what we have. Don’t think of the one thing that we don’t have i.e. a goal. There is so much more to life than just the pleasures of the materialistic chaos. Well I call it chaos because every human being tries to achieve it and there’s no end to it. We must dare to set foot aside from the goal seeking, stereotype mentality of the people who only know how to go in one direction. Instead we must give ourselves some time to enjoy the simple things in life.

4. Take Responsibility

Take responsibility

Having no goals in life directly means being responsible for our own deeds. Whatever we do in life becomes our own personal decision because obviously there is lack of support to a rebel who decides to choose a different path to tread upon. Such risk taking decisions take up a lot of mental strength and courage and we have to be ready to bear the consequences of such decisions on our own. Some may think that if a person doesn’t have any goal in life is irresponsible but I personally feel that in some cases such a case where a person doesn’t have a target to look at is automatically a lot more aware of the surrounding environment therefore becomes careful and responsible.

5. Take Lessons at Every Step

Learn at every step

Life is like a class and at every step it teaches us lessons that make us stronger. For example, the importance of a second chance. Making mistakes is absolutely fine unless we learn from it and never repeat it. We must know how to utilize the chances we get. If we have no clear goal, then we must make sure that we do not take anything for granted and learn whatever lesson we can from even a petty experience. This will help in the making of a sure shot path for us in the future where we will know what to do and what not to pursue.

6. Feel the Rush

Having to face the unknown sure gives everyone of us an adrenaline rush that drives our actions. It can turn out to be total failure but in many cases it results in amazing success. Someone once said that, “Fear, uncertainty and discomfort are your compasses toward growth.” We must get out of our secured bubble and prepare ourselves for unexpected challenges coming our way. Having no clear goal definitely may result in some of us getting all the more excited, energetic and enthusiastic to accept whatever comes our way and hence finding paths that were left untouched.

In the end, I would only say that being unsure and uncertain about our life’s goals is frightening for sure but it cannot be avoided. Everyone in their lifetime, at least once faces such a time where we are completely lost and where everything is haywire. But if we look at the bright side, it is not exactly how it seems. “It is how we embrace the uncertainty in our lives that leads to the great transformations of our souls.” So don’t take this time for granted and shape yourself in the best manner possible and find yourself a passion because ‘you can’t discover a new land without first losing sight of the shore.
