Develop your personal style Develop your personal style

Have you ever wondered how some people manage to effortlessly pull off certain looks and how they stick with a special style? Maybe you’ve also tried it, but it just doesn’t work for you? When shopping, most people just go out (or maybe they shop online at home) and buy the first thing that catches their attention, without thinking much about how many times and on what occasions they’ll be able to wear that piece. But the most important thing is that they don’t think about if they’ll be able to combine it with other pieces they have at home. Developing your personal style isn’t easy, but it isn’t as difficult as you think, either. Here you can find a few tips that will help you fulfill that goal.

Dress in layers

When you dress in layers, the most important thing is to keep it simple. Don’t make things overly complex and put five pieces on. You won’t feel comfortable and it’s difficult to pair so many pieces and make them look good on you. Stick to two or three pieces, for example, a t-shirt, a sweater, and a jacket. Remember to always wear your clothes in this order, from thin to thick. Also, every piece that you wear should be visible, as that’s the whole point of a layered look. So, if you wear a sweater over a blouse, leave that blouse untucked for a modern look, but make sure that the sweater is cropped or slightly oversized. This combination calls for skinny jeans or anything that’s going to make your bottom half slim. Avoid repeating patterns and pay attention to colors.

Find a great tailor

Dressing casually is all great and fun, but there are times when you have to dress formally even if you don’t like it. How do you approach that problem and how to choose the best suit among all the available options? The best piece of advice you could get is to find a great tailor and get yourself a custom-made suit. It doesn’t have to be just the suit, you can get your old clothes remade, some that you don’t wear anymore, or you could come up with ideas that would fit your new style and have your tailor work it out. You can have them taper your sleeves, shorten some pieces, work on altering the waist/hips, anything that pops-up in your mind that will give your old clothes a new look. Also, if you stumble upon a new piece that looks amazing, but doesn’t fit you perfectly, just buy it and take it to the tailor, it’s well worth the money!

Find the dominant style in your wardrobe

Open your wardrobe and pay attention to what kind of clothes are taking most of the space in it. Look for hints like color, cut, material, patterns, anything that stands out the most. When you spot it, you’ll know what works best for you. This is important, as it will save you loads of money and time for shopping. Don’t jump from one fashion trend to another, stay true and consistent with what feels good for you. Next time you go shopping, think about how you can incorporate any new piece that you like with the ones you have at home. Don’t think about what’s popular or trendy now, but think about how you can improve your current style and get the most out of it.

It’s not just the clothes

Having a style is more than just pairing a few pieces of clothing. It’s the overall aura around you. Makeup, accessories, hairstyle, attitude… everything impacts the way you’re perceived as an individual and how much you stand out in the crowd. Everyone usually focuses on what kind of jeans/skirts they can pair with certain shirts/blouses, and they forget that footwear is equally important. Invest in stylish women’s boots and pull off an amazing look for every occasion. Having more footwear that suits your style will allow you to combine more pieces and come up with new looks.

Feel great and have confidence

If you want to feel great with whatever you wear and also have the confidence to try out new things, you should note down a few tips that will help you with that. You should be comfortable with your body first and pick pieces based on your body shape. Don’t look at what other people are wearing, but wear the things that make you feel powerful. Shop for items that you get drawn to at first sight and fit them in your unique style. You should look for pieces that fit your uniqueness. Have fun trying them out and wearing them in public. If you think that they look good on you, then wear them!

It might take some time until you discover what you like and what makes you feel good, but until then you should play with various styles and try new things out. Some things won’t work at first, but learn from your mistakes and be bold!
