Should You Buy Skateboarding Patches? Yes, and Here’s Why

Skateboarding has been around since the 1950s. While it has always been popular in the surf, punk, and general outcast communities, it wasn’t until the 90s that it saw mainstream adoption.

Once Tony Hawk graced the television screen with his mind-boggling, first-time tricks, kids across the nation, and the world, ask for their first skateboards.

And many of us, now in our 20s, 30s, and 40s, never outgrew the love for skateboarding. In fact, the desire to cruise along on four wheels might be stronger than ever.

That’s why you should pick up some skateboarding patches. Regardless of how old or young you are, it’s always a good idea to showcase your love for skateboarding.

Wondering what to do with a skateboard patch? Keep reading below for more information on skateboard patches.

Skateboarding Patches are Cool

Stickers are okay. They’re synonymous with skateboarding. Skaters use them on their deck, their helmets (if they ever have to wear them), and everything else they own from guitars to water bottles.

But stickers don’t show as much dedication as an embroidered patch. A custom patch requires ab it of effort to affix to something. Those who take the time to sew a patch onto their clothing or backpack will reap the rewards, however.

Patches are cool, and they demand a certain amount of respect. And poser can slap some Thrasher stickers on their car. The real skaters slap some patches on their gear.

How to Use Patches

There are two types of patches you can find. Iron-on patches are much easier to use but are less durable. They have a glue-backing that is activated by the heat of an iron.

Iron-on patches are great for lightly used gear, like a hat, that isn’t bent or washed very often.

If you want a patch on something like a shirt, pants, or a backpack, then a sew-on patch is a better choice. They take a bit more work to attach, but they sure won’t be coming off any time soon.

If you’re too lazy to learn how to sew, enlist your mom or grandma. Alternatively, you can take your patch to your local dry cleaner, as they often offer sewing services.

Finding the Best Patch for Skaters

The biggest question is not whether you should buy some patches or not. The question is where to get your patches.

Do you want basic, mass-produced patches that everyone has? Or do you want unique patches, made with care, that no one else has? Choosing a more customized option means you’ll make all the other people at the skatepark jealous.

Not everyone will wear something containing a patch. But those that do often don’t conform to society, its expectations, and its trends. Perfect for skateboarders.
