Essay writing can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be. By following these seven steps, you can ensure that your essays will impress your professors, fellow students and anyone else who reads them. Are you ready? Let’s get started!

Step 1. Understand the Task

Understand the question and what is expected of you. The question should be worded so that you know the topic, the format, how long it needs to be, and how many sources are needed. Read the prompt carefully before starting work on the essay. Make sure you understand the topic, the format, and how long it has to be. Make sure you know what kind of sources are necessary for this assignment before beginning research.

Step 2. Read Carefully

Read carefully through the instructions for the essay. You will want to be sure that you are fully understanding what the professor is looking for in terms of content, style, formatting, etc. For instance, if you are given a list of points that need to be addressed in your essay, it’s important that you not only follow the order they were listed in but also remember to include all of them. If there are specific words or phrases that should be used more than others, this information should also be included in the directions.

Step 3. Write an Outline

Write an outline of the three to five main points you want to make in each paragraph. A good way to do this is to list them in a point-by-point form. For example, Point 1, Point 2, Point 3. The first point will be about your introduction and the final point should discuss the conclusion. Next, think of what examples or evidence you can use for each of those points that will support it so that it seems more concrete for your reader.

Step 4. Get the Structure Right

Getting the structure right is a really important for essay writers. Remember that an essay has three main parts: introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction is where you get the reader’s attention and draw them in. It should also make clear what you are going to talk about in the essay. The body is where you put all of your evidence to support your thesis statement, or main idea of the essay. A well-structured body will have at least three paragraphs, with each paragraph containing a separate argument for one of your thesis statements. You should spend no more than five sentences per paragraph.

When it comes to the conclusion, this part wraps up everything you said in your introduction and body sections.

Step 5. Add Supporting Details

Add supporting details in the form of examples, facts, or opinions that will prove your point. Use at least three different types of details to create a balanced argument. For example, if you are arguing that the university should offer more opportunities for students to study abroad then mention statistics about how many students have never been outside of their country before going to college. Explain how studying abroad would be beneficial for them and what type of experience they might have on an overseas trip.

Step 6. Proofread

Proofread your essay for typos, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. The best way to do this is to read the essay out loud as you proofread it. Read it in a voice with different accents. Read it in a robotic voice. Read it in an upbeat tone, a monotone voice, etc. You may be surprised by what you find. If there are too many mistakes or if the errors seem too complex, consider hiring someone else to proofread for you (perhaps your professor).

Step 7. Enjoy Your Grade!

Enjoy your grades. After all, they are the reason you did it in the first place. You can’t get better at anything without hard work, and grades are just a measure of how much effort you put in. Your professors will take notice if you have a good attitude towards schoolwork; this will help to create an atmosphere where learning is encouraged. By taking care of the three things mentioned in this blog post, you should be well on your way to success when it comes to essay writing.
