The amazing scenery and outstanding natural beauty of Ireland make it one of the best places to go on a road trip. There are many reasons why a road trip through Ireland tops even some of the more well-known routes through other countries.

Remote mountain passes, vast lakes and natural wildlife hotspots along with the beautiful cities and towns along the way make this a perfect place for your next road trip.

1. Galway to Westport

The route then takes you to the beach in Carraroe and from there to Roundstone and on to the Connemara National Park, which has some beautiful scenery. Other stops on this route are the Renvyle Peninsula, Kylemore Abbey and the Delphi Valley. Your trip ends in the historical town of Westport.

2. Lough Derg to Ballina

If you love to visit lakes, this route could be for you. Starting at Lough Derg it will take you to Killaloe, a place with a rich and fascinating history. Along the way, you could visit the Brian Boru Heritage Centre. The drive continues close to the seaside. You’ll reach the beautiful village of Mountshannon and can enjoy the local beach. Don’t miss visiting Holy Island, which you can do by boat. After you have stopped for breaks in several other villages and towns, if you choose to, you can take the road to Ballina and end your journey there.

3. The Ring of Kerry

The Ring of Kerry is one of the best-known routes in Ireland. Take in the beautiful ocean views, mountains and rolling hills as well as the pretty market towns and villages along the way of this spectacular coastal drive. Along the way, you’ll discover rocky islands such as Skellig Michael and take pictures of beautiful cliffs and outstanding views. The Ring of Kerry leads around Ireland’s Iveragh Peninsula and is a trip you likely won’t forget.
