Some people are born leaders while others have to learn to be leaders. This is especially true in the workplace. Regardless of what kind of leader you are, you have to figure out how to be a daily leader. 

You have to figure out how to lead others, set an example, and take responsibility when something goes wrong at work. Being a leader also takes commitment. You have to commit to working with others and showing them what needs to get done. 

If you are learning to be a leader, here are 5 effective tips that can help you become a daily leader in the workplace.  

1. Take Responsibility

If you want to lead by example, you need to learn to accept responsibility in every area of the workplace. Since you are in charge of a team, it’s your responsibility to make sure that the task is completed. 

You need to make sure that your team is prepped and ready to take on any project.

Therefore, being a leader means you have to be willing to accept responsibility if you or your team fails on a project or if you miss a deadline. A quality leader doesn’t blame his team for a poor project. 

Leaders learn to take on the responsibility, understanding that they are in charge of every project if it fails or succeeds. 

2. Accept Feedback

Another critical part of being a daily leader in the workplace is learning to accept feedback from your employees. If your team members are transparent or don’t give you any feedback, you have no idea of how to be a better leader. 

Feedback can be in the form of an anonymous survey, so your team doesn’t feel like you are judging each one of them. 

As a leader, you should always welcome feedback in the workplace. You should strive to be doing something better each day as a leader, which requires constructive criticism from others. 

Another form of feedback is taking a leadership assessment. This can give you an idea of what qualities of a leader you may be lacking. 

3. Lead by Example

There are multiple ways you can lead by example in the workplace. 

First off, it’s by showing up on time for work or even 10 minutes earlier. You are setting the example of what it means to show up at work in a timely manner and be prepared for work.

Leading by example ultimately means that you are no different than your employees. Everyone is equal in the workplace. But it does mean that your team of employees will look to see how you work and what you are doing to set the bar in the workplace. 

4. Create a Transparent Workplace

Being a leader also involves creating a transparent workplace. That means open communication between leaders and employees. 

One idea of creating a transparent workplace is having a whiteboard that’s designed for ideas. Anyone can walk up to the whiteboard and write their ideas they want to put in the workplace. 

The more transparent people are at work, the more they feel free to express themselves. The more they feel like they can help others and be a part of a team, contributing something each day. 

You should also encourage weekly meetings that allow people to engage in the workplace. This encourages team members to discuss ideas freely without feeling like they don’t have a voice. 

5. Have Goals

Lastly, if you want to be an effective leader, you need to have goals. You need to have goals for yourself and for your team. 

When you have goals, there’s an understanding of what needs to be completed. There’s an expectation that you, the leader, have conveyed to your team. 

Goals should be measured by months. You should have a 3-month goal, a 6-month goal, and a 12-month goal. These goals can help motivate your team, especially if you have incentives. 

You can include bonuses or incentives that reward your team if they accomplish these goals. 

The most important thing is to be encouraging and transparent about these goals. As a leader, you want to give your team the tools and whatever else they need to help them accomplish these goals in the workplace. 

When you help your team accomplish their goals, you become a more respected and valued leader.
