Steps to organize any room Steps to organize any room

Do you ever feel so overwhelmed by your surroundings that you just can’t seem to cross anything off your todo list? Cleaning, decluttering, and organizing may not be everyone’s definition of fun, but it is something that can drastically change your productivity. When you tackle one room at a time and follow these 5 steps with each room, you’ll have an organized house in no time, especially if you recruit some help from the family.

How To Organize Any Room?

Step 1:

Start with larger items, if there are any larger items that are not serving a purpose to the room or to you, sell them, or donate them. If they are broken or unusable it’s time to rent a dumpster and toss them. You’ll already start to feel a difference as you create new open space in the room.

Step 2:

It’s time for the cleanout. This is the step that requires the most effort but will give you the most reward. Focus on one corner at a time and before you know it the room will be spotless.

Whether it’s the closet, drawers, or baskets, take out all the items and space them out on the floor. This helps you see what you have right in front of you. While you’re going through the items, it helps to have a designated area for items that you want to donate, keep and the items that you want to toss, make use of the dumpster rental.

If you’re having trouble on knowing what to toss or what to keep ask yourself;

  1. When was the last time I used this item?
  2. Is it bringing me joy or just taking up space?

While you work through your items you’ll notice it becoming easier and you’ll slowly develop a routine. Helps to have some good tunes or a podcast while you sort through.

Step 3:

Now that you have the items that you want to keep all together, it’s time to figure out a way to organize and store them. Research storage options that work best for you.

Think of different ways that your items could be stored, if your previous method was hanging items on hooks and the hooks were overflowing, maybe baskets would be a better option. If piles were accumulating on your floor then maybe, in this case, hooks are a great option to keep your floor clear. The storage method that you choose will be important in maintaining the organization of your things. This process could be trial and error but once you’ve found the right one for you, you’ll wonder how you ever lived otherwise.

Step 4:

Some things don’t need to be destined for the landfill. The common saying of ‘’One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure’’ stands very true. For any items that are gently used or have the potential to be upcycled, try donating them, or selling them. Why not see if you can get some extra cash from items that you weren’t using.

Step 5:

You have the items you want to keep all organized and the items you don’t are tossed or sold, now it’s time to think about maintaining the organization you’ve worked so hard to achieve. Labeling your storage system so that months later you’ll know exactly where everything is. Don’t forget to tell other family members of this new organization method so they can easily put back items instead of keeping them out.
