Did you know that Americans spend more money on coffee every year than investing? Coffee is a popular beverage choice in the United States for its ease of access, caffeine content, and the plethora of coffee shops and types available to us at all times.

However, some premium coffees are vastly more expensive than your average beans. Want to learn more about coffee? Here are some of the world’s most expensive coffees, and why they have the highest price tags on the planet.

1. Kona Coffee

Kona coffee is one of the most well-known expensive coffee brands, as it hails from the district of Kona, Hawaii. The best Kona coffee brands are from reputable growers, and only a small number of them are legitimate.

Many grocery stores and budget coffee companies offer a variation of the Kona flavor, but most of the time it is not completely authentic. For a more affordable option, you can try a Kona blend, but you will sacrifice taste and quality.

2. Blue Mountain Coffee

Blue Mountain coffee is available in extremely limited quantities and comes from Jamaica. In fact, there are only five sites where the coffee is grown. Paired with demand for the beans, this hikes up the price tag dramatically.

Blue Mountain is famous for its smooth and balanced medium blend, making a perfect harmony of flavors. When you have a sip of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, it is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

3. Fazenda Santa Ines

Another one of the most expensive coffees in the world happens to be Fazenda Santa Ines, which is grown in Brazil. One of its distinct characteristics is that it has a fruity flavor which produces a pleasant experience for the drinker.

Lighter roasts tend to have a citrus flavor, which can be acidic and bright when drinking this coffee. Fazenda Santa Ines has an extremely loyal following and can fetch upwards of fifty dollars per pound.

4. Los Planes

Unlike many of the most expensive coffee brands, Los Planes has the unique feature of carrying flavored beans. While other premium coffees rely on the roast and other factors, Los Planes can offer flavors such as brown sugar.

The name comes from the plantation in El Salvador on which the coffee beans are grown and harvested. The beans are harvested from Pacamara trees, which produce a very unique coffee with complex flavors. Usually flavored coffee is not attractive to high-end coffee drinkers, but Los Planes is a notable exception.

The Most Expensive Coffees Out There

Although they can be more costly, the most expensive coffee beans offer a tasting experience unlike any other. If you want to treat yourself, you can buy one of the most expensive coffees and enjoy a premium cup of joe for a steeper price.
